The Family
The group is composed of 34 people from six Palestinian households currently residing in Gaza. They are mostly women and children — including 22 minors, children and adolescents.
All members form part of a single family, including siblings, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and nephews and nieces — with a high number of female heads of household and large families with young children, which places them in a situation of particular humanitarian vulnerability.
One member of the family has already resettled successfully in Chile, leaving Rafah last year. At that time, however, remaining family members remained to await the outcome of ceasefire negotiations. The rapid deterioration of conditions in Gaza now demands their evacuation.
The Context
The family is already in direct contact with the Government of Chile, which has made extensive preparations for their reunification on arrival to Santiago.
In order to receive a group of this size, a special reception team has been set up, composed of different organs of the Government of Chile committed to supporting the family in the health and education systems, providing Spanish classes for language integration, and registering adults for job training programs.
However, additional funds are urgently needed to purchase tickets for the family group to be able to fly to the point of resettlement in Chile.
The Ask
I have organized a one-time crowdfunding campaign for a special Evacuation Fund of $60,000 USD to cover all 34 family members in Gaza.
Every dollar of your donations will be dedicated to guaranteeing the safe passage of family members from Gaza to Chile.
The Deadline
The procedure of evacuation is already underway. Its details remain confidential in order to protect the safety of the families and the security of the operation.
For that reason, the deadline for this fundraiser has been extended to Wednesday, 27 August in order to ensure sufficient time to prepare the travel arrangements that will carry these evacuees to their reunification in Chile.
